The Great Grass-Fed Protein Powder Showdown:

MyFitFoods is proud to debut the best 100% grass-fed whey protein isolate out.

“No whey José.”
“Yes whey, let me explain.”

Hola Fit Fam, today your friends at MyFitFoods dove deep—deep—down into the depths of the whey protein supplementation world, and we're taking you with us.

Why?

Because we’re confident we just brought one of the best 100% grass-fed whey protein isolates to market. That's why.

And today, we’re putting our product out in the jungle (Amazon) to see who the apex protein predator really is.

But before we throw down, let’s acknowledge a very real elephant in this jungle.

My name is Mario Mendias -

I am the CEO and founder of MyFitFoods.
And yes—I am biased towards our products.

Having worked in health and fitness for decades, I’ve tried all the whey proteins out there: the good, the bad, the ugly, the expensive, the dishonest.  You get it.  With decades of experience in this game, I am proud to have helped develop an affordable whey protein supplement that delivers on all your macros—without leaving your muscles (or your wallet) out to dry.  All while being clean (no funky ingredients), 100% grass-fed, and ethically sourced.

This is the whey protein I use.

I'm so confident that we’re going to put my product head to head-with some of the biggest, baddest, and oldest whey protein brands on the market.

Right This Whey: Protein 101

Whey protein supplements allow you to take in more protein daily.  This is key for those looking to stimulate muscle growth, build lean muscle mass, and fuel recovery.

What Is Whey?

Milk is made from two major types of protein: casein and whey. The majority of milk is casein, which does not dissolve very easily in water. The remainder is whey, which does dissolve well.

When we make cheese from milk, the casein solidly forms together to create cheese, while the remaining product is called whey, which is an immensely rich source of protein.

Muscle Protein Synthesis

Protein is made of amino acids. The amino acid leucine is the most important for sending signals to start the muscle-building process.

Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS) is when you add more amino acids to your muscles to build and repair them. Muscle growth is primarily stimulated by exercise and eating protein. The more you can stimulate MPS by eating protein, the more muscle you can build over time.

The leucine threshold refers to the minimum amount of leucine necessary to activate MPS.  If we want to build muscle we want to hit this leucine threshold every single day.

Why Whey Protein

Whey protein is an extremely effective type of protein for three reasons:

  1. Whey is very high in the amino acid leucine, which is most responsible for stimulating muscle growth.

  2. Whey is very quickly absorbed, allowing the amino acids to get into the blood fast.

  3. Whey is rich in other amino acids we need for muscle building like:

    • Isoleucine: supports energy production

    • Lysine: tissue growth and repair

    • Tryptophan: development of muscle fibers

    • Glutamine: Helps improve muscle recovery

    • And many more…

Types of Whey

There are three main types of whey to be aware of when shopping for your protein supplement:

Whey Concentrate

A less processed form of whey, resulting in a slightly lower percentage of protein and a higher percentage of fats and carbs, at a ratio of approximately 80:20. The carbs present are mostly lactose.

Whey Isolate

A more pure form of whey protein. This protein has been slightly processed to remove fats and carbs, resulting in a product made of approximately 90% protein. This is often the product lactose-intolerant people reach for—and this is the type of whey protein MyFitFoods is proud to produce.

Whey Hydrolysate

An even more processed protein variation. This protein has been substantially broken down, or hydrolyzed, by adding an enzyme solution, making it partially digested and easier for the body to absorb.

Grass Fed Whey vs. Regular Whey

The primary difference lies in the source of the milk used to produce the whey.

Grass-fed whey protein is the result of pasture-raised cows grazing a diet of grass, whereas regular whey comes from a combination of cows fed grass, grains, and other feed while living within tightly contained spaces.

Grass-fed whey has significantly lower chances of containing pesticides and GMOs compared to conventional whey due to the grass-based diet.

The benefit of grass-fed

Not only is it better to support companies that ethically treat their animals—obviously—but pasture-raised beef does not need as many antibiotics as cows that live side by side in small containers.

We humans are directly downstream from all the antibiotics in the food we consume. To consume a conventional (non-grass-fed) whey protein supplement, you are allowing yourself to potentially consume high levels of antibiotics every day. Antibiotic consumption through our food leads to antibiotic resistance, affecting our gut biome and the type of nutrients we can absorb through the gut.

Furthermore, cows grazing and living on a grass-fed diet are higher in beneficial nutrients like Omega-3s, CLA, and antioxidants due to their natural diet.

The Benefits of Omega-3s Present in grass-fed whey Protein Include:

  • Lowering blood pressure

  • Reducing joint inflammation

  • Supporting brain and eye health

  • Reducing the risk of heart disease

Grass-fed whey is rich in Conjugated Linoleic Acids (CLA), a type of fat present in dairy and beef. CLA has been shown to help reduce body fat deposits and reduce immune function. It is sometimes taken on its own as a fat-burning supplement.

Based on all the benefits specific to grass-fed whey protein, this product often tends to be substantially more expensive.

Not ours.

Let's start the show.

Whey Protein Showdown

The moment you’ve been reading for:  We trekked, we trudged and we clicked our way through the Amazon jungle, wading through countless whey protein isolate products and analyzing our protein versus the rest.

This protein business is no joke, this is a million-dollar market and as a regular consumer, it can be challenging to discern the validity of claims, quality of products, influencer hype, and snazzy branding.  But thanks to your friends at MyFitFoods now you don't have to, unless of course, you like a good trudge.

We’ll begin with MyFitFoods 100% Grassfed Protein and then make our way through the top five whey protein supplements in the jungle.
