Not all juices live up to their health claims. Many available are not only expensive but also contain excessive sugar—especially those with a high fruit content. While sweet, fruity drinks are enjoyable, they can cause rapid blood sugar spikes followed by energy crashes, leaving you feeling sluggish and unfocused.
That’s why reading the label is crucial. We know fruits contain high amounts of natural sugar, but what you want to be on the lookout for is added sugar. Ingredients like granulated sugar or high fructose corn syrup can turn what's marketed as a “healthy” juice into an absolute sugar bomb.
As nutrition experts point out:
"Green juices made only with veggies are lower in carbs and unlikely to negatively affect your blood sugar. However, if you prefer your green juice with fruit, the sugars in the fruit may contribute to unwanted increases in your blood sugar levels… You can also check the nutrition label for added sugar, which should be zero.
